Meet the Founder & CEO

Barry Ridgway

I am an accomplished business executive, leadership coach, and trained organization advisor.

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

I spent 30 years leading teams and organizations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia, and I have developed a diverse perspective on what it takes to create business success.

Working for 27 years as an executive with Microsoft Corporation, I gained practical leadership expertise in strategy creation, sales transformation, marketing design and execution, channel development, global business operations, consulting, leadership coaching, and team development.

My 30-year career has been entirely client-focused, allowing me to work with thousands of businesses and organizations of all sizes, from Fortune 500 companies and large governments to small business startups, across all major industries. I have lived and worked on four continents and traveled extensively to over 50 countries.

This diverse experience helped me develop a versatile and broad understanding of business, leadership, team, and organizational effectiveness. I learned to deliver big-picture strategies and outcomes while applying practical and functional expertise to identify opportunities, solve complex problems, and identify clear insights and actions to support leader, team, and organization performance and impact.

Foundational in this experience is my belief that everyone can master their potential. My sports heroes inspired my curiosity about the human potential at an early age and motivated me to study psychology in college. Likewise, my passion for coaching others has been inspired and developed throughout my career. It is at the heart of what I love most about my leadership experience and why I pursued formal training as a leadership coach and organizational advisor.

My work and education experience has enabled me to establish a broad network of business leaders, coaches, and advisors I partner with to bring additional expertise to support my client’s success.

PERSONAL Values

I descend from a family of teachers, counselors, and coaches. Learning, teamwork, and helping others grow are my deep seeded values. Over my career, these values helped me build leadership competence to create clarity, generate energy, and enable the success of others.

My strengths are understanding the cause-and-effect conditions and behaviors that produce outcomes, building effective relationships between people and groups, and connecting big-picture ideas with focused execution. I believe in authentic relationships that honor unique talents, value differences, and inspire potential. These strengths inspired me to create Sugarland Partnership and are at the heart of my purpose; to support others to achieve their highest potential.

I enjoy spending time with my wife, two sons, and friends, gardening, skiing, sailing, golfing, and attending sporting events. I'm happiest outdoors and being in nature, and I take inspiration from the places pictured on my website.

I live in the Maryland countryside just outside of Washington, DC, on a road that honors the location and history of an inspiring community called Sugarland. After emancipation in 1864, thousands of African Americans faced an uncertain future. They responded by forming tight-knit communities, determined to realize their potential. Against incredible adversity, the Sugarland community thrived, boasting a schoolhouse, a general store, a post office, a music practice hall, and a church that still stands today. I claim no heritage with the Sugarland residents, but their story of courage, vision, self-determination, and community inspired the name Sugarland Partnership. You can learn more about the story of the Sugarland community at Sugarland Ethno-History Project.
